WHIP Calculator

WHIP Calculator

A WHIP (Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched) Calculator is a tool used in baseball to measure a pitcher’s effectiveness in preventing opposing batters from reaching base. It calculates the average number of walks and hits a pitcher allows per inning pitched.

Formula

The formula for calculating WHIP is: WHIP = (Walks + Hits) / Innings Pitched.

Example

For example, if a pitcher has allowed 40 walks and 100 hits in 120 innings pitched, their WHIP would be: WHIP = (40 + 100) / 120 = 1.17. Therefore, the pitcher’s WHIP would be 1.17, indicating they allow an average of 1.17 baserunners per inning pitched.

A lower WHIP value generally indicates better pitching performance. WHIP is commonly used to evaluate a pitcher’s effectiveness and control on the mound.
