Transferrin Saturation Calculator

Transferrin Saturation Calculator

The Transferrin Saturation Calculator is a tool used to assess the percentage of transferrin that is saturated with iron in the blood. Transferrin is a protein that binds to and transports iron throughout the body.

The formula for calculating transferrin saturation is simple: divide the serum iron level by the total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) and multiply by 100. This calculation provides an estimate of how much iron is bound to transferrin compared to its total binding capacity.

Transferrin Saturation = (Serum Iron / TIBC) * 100

Example: Suppose the serum iron level is 100 micrograms/dL and the TIBC is 300 micrograms/dL. Using the formula, we can calculate the transferrin saturation:

Transferrin Saturation = (100 micrograms/dL / 300 micrograms/dL) * 100 = 33.33%
